MOVIE RECOMMENDATION: CONTROL

CONTROL is the story of IAN CURTIS of JOY DIVISION, based on the book "Touching From A Distance" by Deborah Curtis (his wife). Beautifully shot in black and white, director Anton Corbijn captures a brief era of Curtis' life from high school student to sudden star who contributes to a post-punk music revolution. While the film shows the journey to stardom, the heart of the story is Curtis and the inner demons he struggles with.

SAM RILEY
does an outstanding job as Curtis and you cannot take your eyes off of him. From the opening shot, Riley walks up beside you and brings you alongside him for the next 120 minutes. Like him, admire himbecomes a close companion as you ride with him on a 7 year ride of Life, Love, Loss, Struggle and Post-Pu, hate him - he nk adventure.

For me, the film reinvigorated the power of music. And while every Rock-N-Roll movie is about sex and drugs, this actually goes beyond that to be a story about someone that gave everything he had to his Ambition - something everyone can relate to who has ever believed in something. Anyone who has had a difficult choice to make or has passion for something will be spoken to, and their own lives questioned while watching this movie.

Check it out! I really enjoyed it!

Bizarrely the film was shot in colour then changed to black and white, I read somewhere that the B&W stock they were using was giving a very grainy look so they decided to shoot in colour instead.
