THE NEW KRAKEN

I must say, I'm getting excited for the new CLASH OF THE TITANS. It has big shoes to fill, but the original was not without its flaws. The latest trailer & posters/billboards makes me smile... especially when you see the KRAKEN. We shall see if the new remake meets expectations when we actually watch the movie, so for now I'm simply enjoying the non-smashing anticipation.

Speaking of non-smashing... the new Kraken...........makes me think of the following characters:
(again, I'm not smashing, just having some fun)THE RANCOR!
---ALONZO MALREY
(Aquaman)
---
THE EBERSISK
(Willow)
---
MORLA
(The Neverending Story)
*thanks, SheilaD.

I keed, I keed!
Here's some xtra Clash of the Titans stuff I've been holding onto:

hey jim.... no offense when i say this but werent u bitchin on about how green arrow wasnt holding his bow correctly? and now that medusa is holding it this way u dont say anything.... hmmmm idk... something smells fishy..

Another glaring revision is that the new Medusa is wearing a top.

Hmmm, she seems to be holding it ok. Looks to me like she's using the Pinch Draw method of holding/drawing the arrow.

The Green Arrow one simply defied the laws of physics. His arm was tangled through the bow, etc. If he was even able to draw the bow back, upon release the bow string would have been caught halfway by his arm. Plus there were other odd things.

The medusa looks like a standard left-hand pinch draw.

And yes, her wearing the top is lame!!!!

When I first saw this version of the Kracken I thought of the reimagined Godzilla because of the shape of the lower jaw: http://bookraptor.com/gzlla/godzilla98b.jpg

I think this will be a fun movie- I loved the original so much as a 5 year old, but watching it as an adult is fairly painful.
I kind of wish they hadn't shown everything in the trailer- maybe there will be some surprises.

I was never a huge fan of the original Clash of the Titans, loved the stop-motion but I thought the film was pretty dull, certainly one of the weakest Ray Harryhausen films, plus I hated Laurence Rosenthal's score !! It's a pity they remade this and didn't go with the unfilmed Force of the Trojans he was develpoping with ILM !!

Dude--

It looks like the monster from Cloverfield...

Although I will be going to see it, looks awesome!

I never saw Cloverfield... Had zero interest so avoided.

Cloverfield rulz.

Also, I believe the creature from Willow was technically the "Ebersisk", a combo of Siskel & Ebert.

Jim said...

That's correct... but isn't that what I typed?.... Ah crap, typos!!!!!!!! Post updated. Thanks for the catch!

So... Cloverfield good? I only heard Meh things.

I really like Cloverfield. It would make a great double feature with "The Mist".

I dunno, I have high hopes, but fear the worst. I'm sure the effects will be cool, but I just have this horrible feeling the film will be a bit shallow and empty...I hope I am wrong.

Jim said...

Yeah, I don't have high hopes either, but then again I'm quite cynical (I'm working on it...)

Watched the original Clash of the Titans last night. Fun, but doesn't hold up... definitely Harryhausen's weakest outing (which is still awesome). The Medusa scene still rocks.

I really hope that stupid mechanical owl isn't in the new one. "Hey, you know what this movie about Greek Gods & Titans needs? A ROBOT!"

i WANT this to be good, but it's starting to look more and more like " hey 300 was cool,..let's make it like that.."
I just hope they try and "revision" the movie and they're not milking the "what's in", "popular" look and feel of some of the current movies out there.
I'm seriously tired of the unoriginal, "follow the leader", let's make things "gritty bad ass" for the sake of it, climate of movies and comics that have been churning out lately.

Re: Kraken:

How 'bout the Phantom Menace underwater Naboo monster..."there's always a bigger fish"...

I immediately thought the new kraken looks like the "Chimera" from the PS3 game Resistance.

I read an interview with the writers of the new Clash of the Titans - rest assured, there is no Bubo in the remake. They said they tried hard to give him a cameo, because many people loved him from the original, but it just never made sense.

And I agree that the original is pretty crummy. However, for a PG rated movie, there were some nice nudity in it! Doubt they'll be able to do that again.

I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of nudity upon watching it last night. No wonder I LOVED this film as a little kid!

I should admit this new Kraken might be the most modern and futurist I have seen in my entire life, however it doesn't like me too much.
